The Buy Indian Act
The Buy Indian Act, 25 U.S.C. § 47, is a law that authorizes the Department of the Interior — including the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), and the offices of the Assistant Secretary – Indian Affairs (AS-IA) — to purchase supplies, services and construction from qualified Native American vendors (“Indian economic enterprises” or “IEEs”).
The Department of the Interior Acquisition Regulations implements the Buy Indian Act. Title 48 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 1480, requires Indian Affairs to use the Buy Indian Act authority to give preference to Indians whenever authorized and practicable.

BIA ITSS IDIQ prime contract
Contract 140A1624D0038 — a $500 million, 10-year indefinite-delivery / indefinite-quantity vehicle.
This award established multiple-award indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity contracts (IDIQs) for Information Technology Support Services (ITSS). The period of performance for the IDIQs is ten years. The total requested ceiling is $500M, which is sufficient to cover all known requirements sponsored by the BIA’s Office of Information Management & Technology (OIMT) as well as existing and emerging needs for bureaus across DOI.
